Students opting for Science in plus two with PCM combination(physics, chemistry, mathematics) want to get admission into the most prestigious institution for engineering in the country – the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The IIT Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) is conducted by the IIT for admission to the seven IITs (Kanpur, Kharagpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Roorkee, Chennai), IT Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad. It is difficult to crack this exam and all desirous candidates should have the basics on fingertips. The IIT JEE examination consists of two three-hour papers. The papers are divided into three sections each with questions in physics, chemistry and maths. The basis of the questions is the syllabus followed by the CBSE and ISC Boards. The test format is objective type.

It is best to make a timetable for yourself. This will help devote time for each subject. You require ample time and hard work to crack the IIT JEE.
Hard work should be combined with tact to get through IIT. You must keep in mind that there is negative marking. So avoid answering those that you are unsure of. It is better to get less positive points than earn negative marks. You should answer what you know best first. Then concentrate on the difficult segments. What: Applications are invited for IIT Joint Entrance Examination 2010 for admission to undergraduate programmes at Indian Institutes of Technologies located at Bhubaneswar, Bombay (Mumbai [ Images ]), Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras (Chennai), Mandi, Patna, Punjab [ Images ], Rajasthan and Roorkee.
The IIT JEE score is also used for shortlisting candidates for UG programmes at Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad.
Date of examination: April 11, 2010
Paper-I: 9 am to 12 noon
Paper-II: 2 pm to 5 pm
Eligibility
Candidates must meet ALL the following conditions:
~ Date of birth: Candidate belonging to GE, OBC and DS categories must be born on or after October 01, 1985 and those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must be born on or after October 01, 1980
~ Year of passing qualifying examination (QE): Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination, namely, XII standard or any equivalent examination, after 1st October 2008 or in the year 2009 or will be appearing in 2010.
~ Minimum percentage of marks in QE: candidates belonging to GE, OBC and DS categories must secure at least 60% marks and candidates belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must secure at least 55% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination
Important notes
(i) You can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years. That means you should have attempted JEE for the first time in 2009 or will be appearing in 2010
(ii) If you have accepted admission after qualifying in JEE in earlier years by paying full fees at any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi or ISM, Dhanbad, you will not be eligible to write JEE at all, irrespective of whether or not you joined in any of the programmes

~ Candidates can apply online by logging into the IIT-JEE Web site. The examination fee is Rs 900 for GE/OBC/DS candidates and Rs 450 for SC/ST/PD and female candidates. Candidates can make payment online or through challans of designated banks.
~ Application form and information brochure can also be obtained from any of the designated bank branches between November 16 and December 15, 2009. The cost of application material including the examination fee is Rs 1,000 for GE/OBC/DS candidates and Rs 500 for Female/SC/ST/PD candidates.

AIEEE 2009 - Last-minute prep tips for AIEEE
Getting through the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is not all about conceptual clarity and knowledge of the appropriate formulae and theories. There is more to it than meets the eye. The defining characteristic is its timed multiple choice question (MCQ) format.
The basic idea of a timed test is that you have to work and answer under the constraint of time. Hence, a simple step-by-step algorithmic method of solving a question would only waste your time and put you at a disadvantage. What is required is a set of unconventional tools and methods of problem-solving, apart from the commonsense approach.
A crash course at leading institutes would have given you ample exposure to the types of questions expected. The internet is full of AIEEE solutions for most of the previous years' AIEEE papers.
