IIT JEE last minute preparation tips by an IITJEE Aspirant

Ok so you guys have read a lot about last minute IITJEE preparation’s by the experts? How about a preparation guide straight from an IITJEE aspirant? Enjoy this post

“Hi, I am sharan. Here, I am going 2 give a blueprint for those STARTING their preparation in august (in their 12th). Following these points meticulously will help you to get into IIT’s, even though you have started your preparation VERY late.

1) IGNORE your boards completely till January end.

2) Go to http://www.iitd.ac.in/jee/ and download the syllabi for P,C & M and stick to it VERY STRICTLY while doing any of the topics from the books listed below.

3) Buy these books:

Physics:
HC Verma (vol 1& 2) - done thoroughly with full understanding of concepts

Chemistry:
NCERT books (only for the theory - not the assignment problems!) +
IIT chemistry by TMH (Tata McGraw Hill - complete the whole book)
* don’t neglect chem. It’s the most scoring & least analytical. Either you know it or you don't {as chem is: mugging of facts (inorganic and organic) & mathematics (physical)}

Math:
IIT Math’s by ML Khanna - don’t look at the solution immediately if you don’t get the problem. Look into it only after making a lot of attempts (at least 4 fresh attempts).
Solve this book fully.

4) By the time you complete the above books, it is the end of your December holidays (ie, you get 4.5 to 5 months)

5) In the meantime, (around august middle) join Brilliant tutorials YG Files (screwingly tough problems book) & B.MAT (test series). The above 2, come under one course. Go to www.brilliant-tutorials.com and apply. Don’t apply for FIITJEE test series, as it is supposed 2 be unnecessarily tough.

6) Start solving the YG Files ONLY AFTER completing the text books listed, else, you will get  the impression that IIT is beyond your reach.
Do the test analysis of brilliant properly and improve your timing

7) ##oh yes, forgot to tell you:
i)   During school days, devote 5 hours (effective, concentrated time) for IIT preparation alone.
ii)  In holidays, devote 8 hours for IIT alone.
iii) In your study holidays, start studying for boards (5 hours/ day would do). Side by side, revise IIT stuff for 5 hours.

8) After boards, till 2 days before the actual IIT-JEE, slough out for 12 hours of concentrated study devoted for IIT. Revise and strengthen all your concepts in all the books and tests you have done so far. 2 days before IIT JEE, STOP studying/thinking about studying & do some relaxation techniques such as meditation etc for temperament control. Get all the sleep you can ask for and go to the exam with a fresh mind and with brimming confidence.

9) You are going to receive the fruits of your hard work a month later when you are deemed successful in IIT JEE. You are now an IITian!!!

HOPE you found this article ’very useful’. “

IITJEE Preparation Tips by IITJEE Topers

I passed IIT-JEE in 2002 (with AIR 118), when there used to be a screening test of objective type, and a main exam of subjective type. The pattern of the exam has changed since, but strategy remains the same.

1. Get your fundamentals and basics clear. Don't rush, give ample time and effort to basic concepts. That's what will see you through the exam.

2. Practice a lot. This involves two types of practices:

a. Without time limit: Solve the solved examples, without looking at the answer. Then see if you were wrong, and if so, why? The purpose of practice is learning the right approach. Then solve other questions.
b. With time limit: Take few time-limited tests to simulate exam environment. The purpose is to improve speed and build temperament.

3. Then before the exam, take rest for a few days. Don't study new concepts, relax. That increases performance and improves temperament in the exam.

4. Self confidence is the key to crack this exam. From a comparative analysis of IITians, self confidence was one thing that I found common amongst all the good rankers.

'Don't worry as your hard work will bring you the success'

As you are nearing the exam day don't try to cover new topics. Just concentrate on the ones you are good at and try to consolidate them.

Take some mock tests on your own to get the timing right.

Exam day

Have a good's night sleep the day before and don't read too much on that day.

Before you start the exam read the instructions completely. Check for negative marking and the breakup of marks.

You can answer all the questions if the negative marking is -1 for a 4-mark question as you only need to get one in 5 to lose nothing.

If you feel that you have taken more time for a question just leave it and try to revisit it in the end if time is left.

Don't worry as your hard work will bring you the success.

'Remember that this is just another examination and not the end of life'

A lot has changed in the JEE system after I had cleared it in 2006. But the basics rules are still the same.

Be confident but not over-confident. All the three papers in the exam are equally important. Don't presume your strengths and weaknesses because it may so happen that the questions in your favourite subject are a bit tough and you might get demoralised.

Don't run after attempting too many questions; getting them correct is more important. With less than two weeks to go for JEE, take care of your health and don't stress yourself too much. Just carry on revising basics everyday and make sure you solve at least two sample question papers (timed) everyday.

During this time, don't solve previous year's question papers as there are chances that you may either get very complacent or very demoralised.

In the end, remember that this is just another examination and not the end of life. All the best!

How to crack the IIT JEE

Students opting for Science in plus two with PCM combination(physics, chemistry, mathematics) want to get admission into the most prestigious institution for engineering in the country – the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). They believe that this will guarantee a prosperous future. Undoubtedly, they are successful and are occupants of the best jobs in India and abroad and are revered for their knowledge and technical know how. And the gateway to this paradise of engineering – the IIT JEE.

The IIT Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) is conducted by the IIT for admission to the seven IITs (Kanpur, Kharagpur, Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, Roorkee, Chennai), IT Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad. It is difficult to crack this exam and all desirous candidates should have the basics on fingertips. The IIT JEE examination consists of two three-hour papers. The papers are divided into three sections each with questions in physics, chemistry and maths. The basis of the questions is the syllabus followed by the CBSE and ISC Boards. The test format is objective type.

Being a master of calculus in mathematics, and mechanics and electromagnetism in physics is a big aid to students. Some of the essential topics that you should concentrate on are Modern Physics and electronics, Wave options, Inorganic chemistry and General chemistry. Also study in depth Solid State, Probability and Differential Equations. Other important and scoring topics are analytical geometry, electricity, mechanics and physical chemistry. A good knowledge of these topics will enable you in answering most of the paper correctly.

It is essential to have clarity in the subjects. All the subjects- physics, chemistry and maths, should be given equal importance. Constant and unrelenting practice and revision is a must. It is best to make a timetable for yourself. This will help devote time for each subject. You require ample time and hard work to crack the IIT JEE.

Hard work should be combined with tact to get through IIT. You must keep in mind that there is negative marking. So avoid answering those that you are unsure of. It is better to get less positive points than earn negative marks. You should answer what you know best first. Then concentrate on the difficult segments. Approach the exam with a positive outlook, cool mind and confident attitude. This will give you an edge over other aspirants.

You may be a master of the subjects, but cracking IIT JEE needs effective guidance as well. It is a good option to enroll into a reputed training institute. They teach you the fundamentals that you may not already know. They do not force you upon studying, but they do motivate you. The trainers educate you on tips to answer the papers in the best possible way. Though this may not be the best way to succeed but it does enhance your chances.

IIT JEE may seem simple to you, but you should realize that most students answer the exam well and only a handful get a call. The competition is treacherous and the number of applicants is sky high. You may miss it by a fraction. So any student who wants to achieve a seat in IIT, start preparing today, exert yourself, forget distractions and with only one goal in mind, appear for the IIT JEE.
