IIT-JEE may consider online test

 The Indian Institutes of Technology could be thinking of conducting an online joint entrance examination (JEE), on the lines of the Indian Institutes of Management. While the common admission test (CAT) for entry into IIMs went online three years ago, the IITs are yet to take the big step.

The IIT-Delhi, which is organizing IIT-JEE 2012, has invited all IIT directors for a workshop on Friday, where an online model will be demonstrated. The JEE office is hosting the workshop. Sources from IIT-Delhi have confirmed that Education Testing Services (ETS), which conducts the GRE and several other popular global online examinations, will make a presentation at the workshop.


Most officials on record denied plans to go online with JEE. A senior official from one of the IITs claimed that the workshop was scheduled to discuss the possibilities of an online examination for JEE. "We might just discuss the feasibility. No decision has been taken," said the official.

A senior IIT-B professor said, "An online exam may or may not work for JEE. While CAT faced teething problems initially, it is stabilized now. For an exam, where you need to calculate a lot, pen and paper seems to be a better option. But students these days are well versed with technology and in future, everything might be computerized."

Currently, only two directors have responded to the invitation, claimed an official from IIT-Delhi. "Experts from ETS will make a presentation and showcase their testing systems. It is a successful testing pattern in the US. But there will not be any overnight decision on JEE going online," said the official.

“Hi, I am sharan. Here, I am going 2 give a blueprint for those STARTING their preparation in august (in their 12th). Following these points meticulously will help you to get into IIT’s, even though you have started your preparation VERY late.

1) IGNORE your boards completely till January end.

2) Go to http://www.iitd.ac.in/jee/ and download the syllabi for P,C & M and stick to it VERY STRICTLY while doing any of the topics from the books listed below.

3) Buy these books:

Physics:

HC Verma (vol 1& 2) - done thoroughly with full understanding of concepts

Chemistry:

NCERT books (only for the theory - not the assignment problems!) +                                

IIT chemistry by TMH (Tata McGraw Hill - complete the whole book)

* don’t neglect chem. It’s the most scoring & least analytical. Either you know it or you don't {as chem is: mugging of facts (inorganic and organic) & mathematics (physical)}

Math:

IIT Math’s by ML Khanna - don’t look at the solution immediately if you don’t get the problem. Look into it only after making a lot of attempts (at least 4 fresh attempts).

Solve this book fully.

4) By the time you complete the above books, it is the end of your December holidays (ie, you get 4.5 to 5 months)

5) In the meantime, (around august middle) join Brilliant tutorials YG Files (screwingly tough problems book) & B.MAT (test series). The above 2, come under one course. Go to www.brilliant-tutorials.com and apply. Don’t apply for FIITJEE test series, as it is supposed 2 be unnecessarily tough.

6) Start solving the YG Files ONLY AFTER completing the text books listed, else, you will get  the impression that IIT is beyond your reach.

Do the test analysis of brilliant properly and improve your timing

7) ##oh yes, forgot to tell you:

i)   During school days, devote 5 hours (effective, concentrated time) for IIT preparation alone.

ii)  In holidays, devote 8 hours for IIT alone.

iii) In your study holidays, start studying for boards (5 hours/ day would do). Side by side, revise IIT stuff for 5 hours.

8) After boards, till 2 days before the actual IIT-JEE, slough out for 12 hours of concentrated study devoted for IIT. Revise and strengthen all your concepts in all the books and tests you have done so far. 2 days before IIT JEE, STOP studying/thinking about studying & do some relaxation techniques such as meditation etc for temperament control. Get all the sleep you can ask for and go to the exam with a fresh mind and with brimming confidence.

9) You are going to receive the fruits of your hard work a month later when you are deemed successful in IIT JEE. You are now an IITian!!!

Best books for IITJEE Preparation

Hello Folks

First of all let me wish you all the best for your choice as you have chosen something really good which is to compete for IIT entrance exam.

The entrance exam is considered to be one of the toughest. But if you see the previous year papers the exam is no more considered tough.

Books to be used?

Well todays market is filled with lots of books from which some are considered really good. I would advice you not to go for each and every book. Better stick to one book and so move on to higher level.

Dont overload yourself with lots of books

Books are your best friends but studying too many books are really harmful. Trust me.
My advice will be to go few books listed below

Physics :

Chemistry:

NCERT (must)
Arihant Organic chemistry
OP Tondon

Mathematics:

ML khanna or RD Sharma
Arihant

These many books are more than enough to crack IIT JEE. Just make it a point to study them seriously and thoroughly.

Plan properly and systematically

Planning systematically is very important since you have limited time of a year or 2. So manage your time well and study daily. This is very important

Dont give up your 11th and 12th portion just for IIT preparation sake.

This is a major crime commited by many students those who aim for IIT. Since you are in 11th. I would like to advice you at the start that DONT IGNORE 11th and 12th Studies. Whatever they teach you in school is equally important. So dont ignore it in any case. Try to manage time time accordingly
